About SPBH

Welcome to Sherwood Park Ball Hockey!

The Sherwood Park Ball Hockey league was established in 2011 and we continue to grow each season. We are the largest minor ball hockey league in Alberta (2022) and had 12 divisions and over 93 teams in 2019 (pre-pandemic).
We are a sanctioned, non-contact, co-ed league with players of all skill levels welcome to play. We aim for a safe and fun league for all our participants ages 4 and up. We are also the only known ball hockey league in Canada that offers a program for Youth Special Needs.

Our league follows the Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) rules and over the years we have seen many players/teams participate and have success at provincials, westerns, nationals and worlds.

Vision Statement:

To be an amateur sports organization of choice that develops and inspires athletes, fostering a lifelong commitment to ball hockey, team and community.

I would like to provide a little of my personal history as it relates to SPBH and offer some thanks.

I can’t recall how many years it has been since the league started, but I have been a participant from the start. This year I still had 4 players from the first team that was put together as a friend request. I believe we were in the Minor division which at the time was the oldest group. There was 4 teams in the division. That group of friends grew each year and you were always willing to let them play together. I know this wasn’t always a popular decision with some parents and the other coaches, so I appreciate the consideration. I also wanted to let you know how important that was to this group, without that, the originals would have quit years ago and the other 10 or 11 from this year may never have played. Over the years the core group of this team represented SPBH hockey on 3 Provincial teams and Westerns bringing home 2 silver medals and a gold.

Most importantly SPBH gave an opportunity for these young men to play a game they loved with their friends. I have had the opportunity to watch these guys grow not only as players, but as people, and its been a great ride.

The league is a fantastic success story, the growth has been fantastic. It provides an affordable low stress activity that takes on individuals of all skill levels. I coached my daughters team one year,  I think we had 7-8 girls on the team and we did awesome, fun to watch. The expansion of the league and the continued addition of divisions on the top end worked very well. There is some great mentorship, training and development in the refereeing group as well. The success and growth of the league is a testament to the countless hours and effort that has been put in by your group.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

"Not sure if the other age groups ran as smoothly as U9, but it was a pretty awesome experience as a parent, co-coach engaging with Sherwood Park Ball Hockey for the first time. I have been involved with a number of leagues as a player and parent and think this has probably been the best ran that I have experienced."
